IMPORTANCE OF BEVERAGES TO THE BODY:

As the Academy of General Dentistry said in their earlier article, carbonated water and sugar are the main ingredients of many drinks. Packaged drinking water like sports drink, sparkling water, carbonated water, soda drinks and etc are bad for your teeth. A few more drinks like soft drinks also impact a very serious effect on your teeth and also on your health.

WHAT FOODS AFFECT OUR TEETH?

Instead of mentioning a complete list of foods, we will list few of them. It is better to use a simple common sense while selecting snacks. It is highly recommended not to choose sugary stick candies, sticky foods like dry fruits, chips, sugary cookies, Doritos, raisins and other sticky products which causes cavities and might erode your tooth’s enamel.

WHAT STEPS NEED TO BE TAKEN AFTER CONSUMING ANY STICKY FOOD?

Due to some unavoidable conditions, if you eat these snacks, you must brush your teeth to remove any of the leftovers between the teeth. If these food particles are out of reach to your toothbrush, then you can use sugar-free gum or rinse your mouth with plain water.

WHAT SHOULD A PERSON DO, IF THEY DRINK A SODA OR EAT A LEMON?

They have to rinse their mouth with water or chewing sugar-free gum too will help in neutralizing the acidic effect by producing more saliva in the mouth.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT AFFECTS BABY TEETH?

Yes, parents have to avoid breastfeeding, bottled milk or any kind of juice to babies while sleeping. These activities will affect their teeth especially their upper front teeth will get cavities. Mothers have to be careful in these matters and they should wipe their kid’s gums before putting them to bed.

For the people who are more prone to these acidic drinks and sugary or, sticky foods should visit their dentist very often to check their teeth for cavities. If so, then they should get an x-ray of their teeth to check the severity or the depth of the cavity. If the depth of the cavity is shallow, then it can be fixed by a simple filling and if the cavity has reached the root then our endodontist Dr. Sukhminder Buttar at Advanced Care Dental in Tukwila, Wa will perform a root canal treatment to retain your natural teeth. If you have neglectied your teeth in the past, please call our office and let us help you to get back on a dental regiment that works for you.
